Homework Policy
Homework is an opportunity to practice and reinforce skills learned during class
time. Therefore, completion of a reasonable amount of regular homework is an essential piece
for a successful year!
IXL Math & ELA Assignments- Required math and language arts IXL assignments will be posted in Google Classroom at the end of each school day. Assignments are due by the deadline posted in Google Classroom. Students should aim for a Smart Score of 90-100 on each lesson. However, if your child is having a difficult time reaching that goal within 40 minutes or less, feel free to contact me for an accommodation. On the off chance that IXL assignments are not posted, students do not have homework for the day.
Uploading Homework Notes to Google Classroom: Showing evidence of work on scratch paper or a notebook is the best way for students to successfully accomplish 4th grade level math problems. Students are required to upload organized scratch paper to Google Classroom for the majority of IXL math assignments. Please make sure that directions are read carefully on Google Classroom prior to starting IXL assignments. If uploading is required for the assignment, it will be clearly stated in the directions on Google Classroom.
IXL Recommendations- In addition to IXL math and language arts assignments, students are responsible for spending time working on their recommended IXL skills. Students are given class time to complete these assignments. However, if students do not complete their active minutes during the provided class time, they are responsible for completing the minutes at home. On the average day, we spend 5 to 30 minutes on these assignments. The exact time that is required for the day will be listed on the Google Classroom assignment.
Unfinished Classroom Assignments- On occasion, students will need to take unfinished classwork home for homework. In the event that students are out of the classroom (absences, tardies, early dismissals, etc.), they are still responsible for all assignments.
Recommended Reading- Students are strongly encouraged to spend time reading novels at home. Although this is not a requirement, there will be occasional extra credit opportunities for students regularly reading at home.
Technology Access- IXL can be accessed on a range of technology devices with internet access, including smart phones. All families will be asked to complete the “Technology Survey” on the back of this page. If your child has access to a device at home, it is strongly encouraged that school chromebooks are kept in the classroom.

Missing Assignment Policy
It is important that students complete their homework assignments on time. However, I understand that life can get in the way with unexpected events (family emergencies, illnesses, absences, etc.). In most circumstances, I will accept late homework for credit as long as the student emails me in advance asking for an extension. In order to make up missing IXL assignments, students need to resubmit the Google Classroom assignment after reaching a smartscore of 90 or higher. Students also need to send me an email stating the name of the IXL assignment that was resubmitted. Communication regarding missing assignments should come from the student, not parents/ guardians.
Please note that I do not actively notify parents/ guardians about missing homework. It is important that you connect to your student’s Google Classroom account so you receive weekly progress updates. Google Classroom is the best way for you to check your child’s progress in the class.
In general, excessive missing assignments (classwork and homework) will impact participation in special activities (field trips, class parties, etc.). In addition, missing homework assignments will negatively impact students’ report card grades. Remaining accountable for daily assignments sets a foundation for responsible self-management!
